Encouraged by his brother-in-law’s success in HVAC, Justin entered the Associated Builders and Contractors program in Lancaster, Pennsylvania straight out of high school.

Justin moved to Charlotte a year after completing his certification and Aaron’s been here since 1998. The two met while working in the HVAC industry in Charlotte. Yearning to be in charge and do things differently, Justin and Aaron started Sunset Mechanical in late 2000.

Aaron’s father ran a Refrigeration and Appliance business in Sayre, Pennsylvania where Aaron helped out as a kid. Later, Aaron attended the Penn College program for HVAC and Plumbing.
Above all else, Justin and Aaron had to prove it was possible to deliver top quality work at an affordable price. If it meant cutting into profit margins to do the job right, so be it. As their own bosses, they’d no longer have to listen to voices harping on them to speed it up or cut corners just to come in under bid. More than a decade later, Sunset Mechanical continues to prosper with this philosophy.
It’s not unusual for our home inspections to uncover carbon monoxide issues and gas leaks that other contractors missed. Or AC drain lines backed up in the attic and we catch it before it leaks through the ceiling. Knowing we can have this big an effect on people’s lives inspires us to do what we do, everyday.
After all, folks with no heat in winter and no AC in summer can’t even be comfortable in their own homes. To us, doing the right thing so they can get back to living a higher quality of life is what it’s all about. And so when contractors approach their work like they’re punching a clock and lack decent people skills to boot, we take it upon ourselves to deliver an experience that elevates how the public views our profession.
When they’re not squeezing into crawlspaces and attics to scoop the energy savings others miss, Justin and Aaron enjoy sports with their loved ones.
